Morpheus’ Hand

My hand and glove became the object of art for this series of artworks. Utilizing a flatbed scanner, I became intrigued by the idea of motion, both my hand and the scanner sliding across the bed. I was interested in seeing how my movements would be interpreted. I put on dance music to inform my movements, twisting and bouncing along and varying the shape into various position over the light. The output I felt was a form of another dimension realized by the act itself of going through this experience. Without the act itself, I would have no image to show you.

In arriving at an appropriate title for the series, I have named this Morpheus’ Hand. Morpheus, similar to the word metamorphosis, is the son of Hypnos and the god of dreams. He had the ability to put one to sleep and shape your dreams. It is a fitting name for this explorative series.
